the great dismal
The Great Dismal is a period drama set in the 1820s in the Great Dismal Swamp, a vast impenetrable wilderness between Virginia and North Carolina, populated by thriving hidden communities of free African-Americans, Native Americans, and outcast Europeans. The series tells the story of Willa, a young woman growing up in the swamp, and follows her family's history from their African, Native American and English origins to their return to the outside world after the Civil War.
